During winter in Canada, you would be hard pressed to find a single commercial application that does not have a mat in the entry or lobby. To determine the size, shape and quality of the matting you need, let us prompt you with some statements:
Now, you need to measure your needs above both physically and logically. With a tape measure on the floor, think about how much matting will simply Protect. You may pay the contract cleaners a flat monthly fee, so Savings for cleaning costs isn’t evident until you ask your cleaners to handle a spill somewhere else in the building, but they’re busy mopping the entry. If you’ve ever been sued for a slip fall, you’ll likely feel prevention outweighs everything. LEEDS certification is mandated in many buildings, which will often drive matting decisions. When your analysis is complete, ask this question…
Step one – Imagine a fully edged, one piece mat covering the FULL width of ALL doors extending into the building in each direction, catching the soil that fulfills your objectives outlined in 1 – 4 above.
Step two – Draw it out. Do an outline of the above showing the extent of matting going all directions from each entry. It’s OK to be odd-shaped with one main mat and runners extending out as required. If it seems to go too far, then pull it back and add more aggressive mats in your vestibule or outside.
Step three – Break down your outline into something manageable. If you leave your mats year round, then a one-piece mat might be fine. Otherwise, you’ll need to draw a line across the top of the main mat that spans the doors, which defines the end of the main mat. Make it a simple rectangle, then follow it up with seasonal runners in each direction. You now have a layout!
Step four – Scan or take a photo of this drawing that shows the dimensions of each side. Send it to us! We’ll price a good-better-best scenario for you and may suggest some efficiencies.
